Rustic weddings are definitely the trend these days, likely sending burlap and Mason jar sales through the roof! Michelle and AJ truly embody the whole concept, being outdoor enthusiasts, environmental stewards and taking casual to a whole new level. Well, they took rustic to a new level for their Tumbledown Farm NH wedding, a truly authentic barn venue complete with Highland cow herds, tractors and a chicken coop larger than some apartments.

It’s been a quick ride with AJ and Michelle as we met them only weeks before the wedding, but between many meetups and an engagement shoot we have gotten to know this spunky fun-loving couple quite well.

We knew the wedding day would be fairly stress free. How? Because Michelle is a scientist! She researched, weighed variables, likely setup flow charts and had a polling audience. Nothing was left to chance. So as planned, everything was awesome!

AJ whipped out a few surprises, including a note and framed photograph of their two dogs, adding to the joy and smile on Michelle’s face.

While the cows munched down the pasture, family and friends congregated in a freshly mowed field, as two friends accompanied the gentle breeze with their acoustic guitars.

AJ works in finance, and Michelle as an environmental scientist. It’s a wonder they found the time to plan a wedding at all. Although travel and adventure are a regular part of their lives, there was never any question their day would take place in New Hampshire.

With brother Mark leading Michelle down the aisle, friend Debbi officiating and those closest in attendance on a perfect June day in the Lakes Region, not even a rowdy cow could have interfered with this ceremony!

Fortunately, the only ones rowdy were the bridal party as Nick’s shoes literally disintegrated (chemical reaction to manure?) and the party began back at the barn.

Rustic elements surrounded the guest tables and drenched the barn in a warmth with remembrances for those lost, memories of past times, and encouragement for celebration.

And so the party began! With serenades from Michele’s Mom and Aunt, local fruit wine, a buffet spread and enough dancing to shake the barn floorboards loose!

Congratulations to a couple filled with love, energy and spirit! We’re pretty sure you successfully rode off into the sunset together! and congratulations to the horse saved in the making of the photo below!
