Jen & Darin wasted no time post proposal scheduling their Kailua Engagement photos! Literally the next weekend we were out at dawn on Lanikai Beach letting the romance flow! I would say that their intense love was still feeling the effects of the proposal in an outpouring of emotion, but I’ve come to realize that these two are always this affectionate and in love! They are also full of fun and love for the outdoors, which makes a beach session all that much more adventurous!
Being stationed in Hawaii pretty much requires a beach photo shoot for your engagement photography. However, Jen is originally from Washington state and the forest is a part of her soul. Dense woods aren’t something you think of as a Hawaii photographer, but thanks to our love of hiking, we had just the spot in mind. If you look at a map, much of Kailua is taken up by the Kawainui Marsh, which provides gorgeous backdrops of the Ko’olau mountains, views out to the Moke’s and a rich forest cultivated with hiking trails.
So our morning began overlooking the Mokulua Islands with a rich sunrise pouring over the pale sand, and an empty beach at our disposal. The problem was, we could have stayed there all morning! However, the forest was calling and we didn’t want the sun to get too high. Jen swapped outfits and we ventured into the woods, getting wonderfully lost, discovering newly developed trails and landmarks and enjoying private moments where I’m pretty sure they forgot I was still there!

Jen, Darin, my best wishes for an amazing Washington wedding! I’m super bummed not to be a part of it, but you better believe I’ll be there in spirit! I can’t wait to see you back in Hawaii next winter and hiking with you as happily newlyweds!!
