One of the reasons we love being contacted about proposing in Acadia is meeting people from so many places. Acadia National Park is one of the most visited parks in the country. Kip & Sam came from Tennessee, by way of Massachusetts.
The couple met at a work Christmas party. Kip worked with Sam’s mom. It’s not very often a mom meets and approves of a boyfriend before her daughter has ever met him. With that said, we were fairly certain what the answer to Kip’s question was going to be. Likely Sam’s mom already said “Yes” on her behalf.
While Kip is an anesthetist, Sam is starting medical school which has her full time in North Carolina and him splitting time with her and work in Texas. So this vacation to Maine was not just hosting a very important moment, but a rare opportunity of down time for them.
The fun in our job comes when we meet the proposer and get to hear about the soon to be fiancĂ©. About Sam, Kip said, “She is the most fun and loving person in the world.” Not the type to hike a mountain before a photo shoot, we suggested something more formal. A way to incorporate the coastal Maine landscape while dressing up and celebrating with champagne.
Our garden location was the perfect spot, with the added bonus of our being the only ones there. After detailed directions, Kip nervously led Sam to “the spot” and Sam made her mom proud. Popping a bottle of champagne for a toast, we hit the ground running with photos to take in the early evening sun.
The flowers were at their peak, typical Maine fog was nowhere to be seen, and the evening light was magical. We could easily have spent all night there, but left on a high. Kip & Sam concluding with a celebratory dinner based on one of our recommendations. And while this wasn’t a “typical” Acadia National Park photo shoot location, it was pretty darn perfect for them.
