A Hidden Pond Wedding is a special event at a special location, a little spa retreat nestled into an otherwise forgotten stretch of flat land on the outskirts of a thriving coastal Maine town. It was just the right mix of intimacy, Maine mystique, and foodie sophistication that Michigan born Kat and Eric needed. The couple, who were set to marry a year and a half earlier, with 150 family and friends in their home state walked a rocky road to arrive at this spot with the 9 people who knew them best.

After planning a large wedding and loosing their sense of identity, they called it off and started from scratch. Eric had once lived in Portland, working in a few of the most well known restaurants. He loved his time there, so Kat suggested they make the move and begin with a blank slate.

Theirs is a typical story of girl who knew boy from growing up but boy began dating girl’s coworker. Years later, both single, boy and girl run into one another in a bar and the rest is history. Well, sort of.

They technically broke up after the Michigan wedding was called off. Finding their way back to one another, Eric was just a bit uneasy to make a move to Portland on Kat’s suggestion since she wouldn’t be joining him for a few months.

Fortunately, Eric’s fear of Kat sending him away from her was unfounded as she excitedly became a Maineiac at the start of summer. A second engagement and one year later they enjoyed the wedding they were always meant to have.

Both Kat and Eric are calm, loving people with intellectual curiosity and great senses of adventure (their honeymoon is in Instanbul and Turkey!) It’s obvious that the blip in their relationship has only made them stronger forming a solid team in their Maine farmhouse with Alaskan Malamute Tenley (born on 10/10 and brought home at 10 pounds.)

Kat’s brother, Philip (aka Fuzz) officiated and hand selected all the wine (don’t worry, it’s kind of what he does having a career in California’s wine industry.) Kat’s best friend Megan (with boyfriend Brandon) skipped out of her job at the Art Institute of Chicago to fly out. Eric’s son wrapped up his first year of college in Michigan and Kat’s parents brought an iPad full of their travel adventures having just left their winter home in Florida. The only two besides bride and groom without a commute was Eric’s best friend Barry and wife Kristen having known Eric from his former Portland life.

Eric’s passion being in food and Kat’s family having a stake in wine made for an epic 15-course celebratory meal from oysters to donuts in Hidden Pond’s new shed.

As the sun set and the meal drew to a close, we said our goodbyes. However, this is one couple we have no doubts of seeing again as they embark our their awesome new adventure.
