A flowery Acadia proposal isn’t what most people envision. But, we knew from the start that William and Jenny’s proposal would be different. Privacy was far more important than views. And William said “Jenny loves flowers…LOVES them.” His vision was to hike out to Bar Island for the lupine. We sadly had to burst his bubble explaining that lupine weren’t blooming over Labor Day weekend. And further break the news that the holiday weekend is not in fact less touristy being at the end of the summer. Instead, we guided William towards a garden filled with color and devoid of tourists. A perfect flowery Acadia proposal. William knew Jenny wouldn’t want to be in hiking clothes, so we built the ruse of “going out to dinner.” Though appearing at a garden was a clear tip off, the moment was just as special. William’s nerves brought him down on one knee quickly, then we spent the rest of the time soaking in the beauty and joy. Jenny met William in his first week as a Baltimore resident. He knew then she would “be around the rest of my life.” Living only a few blocks from one another, it wasn’t long before she moved in with him. Filling the walls with National Park artwork, it was clear where he would propose. But, while they love hiking, he envisioned a more elegant proposal. He wore his blazer jacket on the plane, the ring in the pocket. The night of the sunset proposal, he told her they were going out to dinner. And again wore the jacket. And while Jenny had worn her PJs on the plane, this time she dressed up. It was evident as soon as they arrived that this was the perfect location. We had been in touch with the garden to make sure no events were scheduled. And in fact, we didn’t see a single other person. William’s nerves got the better of him, and he slightly missed his mark for the proposal spot. (Granted seeing our maps and photos with a stick figure for guidance isn’t fool proof.) But it was still amazing, and we did a fun redo later at another spot overlooking the ocean.
