By Kate & Keith

If you’re here, you’re probably dreaming of proposing in Acadia, one of the most breathtaking places on the East Coast. Acadia National Park is full of stunning backdrops—from mountaintops to rocky coastlines—and choosing the perfect spot to pop the question can feel exciting…and a little overwhelming. But, based on popularity, there are 5 places to propose in Acadia National Park that are clear winners.

But the top 5 places to propose in Acadia aren’t actually the best. We’ve been photographing proposals and elopements in Acadia since 2013. Kate grew up exploring Mount Desert Island, and together we’ve spent countless hours hiking trails, chasing light, and helping couples create unforgettable moments. We know the landscape, the rhythm of the seasons, and the little details that can make your proposal even more meaningful. So while the top 5 are iconic, they might bring challenges you want to avoid.

Before we get to the proposal locations, let us give you what the subtitle promised.

Now, let’s get to those five beautiful places to propose in Acadia—plus a few things to keep in mind as you plan your big moment.

📍 1. Cadillac Mountain

Cadillac Mountain is one of the most common places to propose in Acadia. Probably because it’s just the most popular place. It’s likely the first thing that pops up in most searches for “Where to propose in Acadia.” Or maybe it’s just because it’s such a beautiful spot. At 1,530 feet, it’s the tallest peak on the East Coast and offers sweeping, panoramic views of Frenchman Bay, Bar Harbor, and the surrounding islands. During certain times of year, it’s the very first place in the U.S. to see the sunrise, making it an especially magical location to start a new chapter of your life together.

Because of its popularity, especially at sunrise and sunset, Cadillac often requires a timed vehicle reservation—and you’ll likely be sharing the view with many, sometimes hundreds of other visitors. With sometimes multiple proposals happening simultaneously. For some couples, that sense of shared awe adds to the moment. Others imagine something more private and reflective.

If you’re leaning toward solitude, we can help you consider alternate times of day, shoulder-season visits, or locations with a similar vibe but a little more breathing room. Our role is to help you align the location with the feel you’re going for. There’s a contact form at the bottom of this page if you’re ready to chat!

🫖 2. Jordan Pond

Jordan Pond is a classic Acadia destination, beloved for its tranquil waters and picture-perfect views of the North and South Bubbles. The loop trail around the pond offers quiet corners and scenic lookouts, and the historic Jordan Pond House—with its famed tea and popovers—adds a timeless New England charm.

It’s a lovely spot for a lakeside proposal, especially for couples who want to include a leisurely walk or a celebratory meal afterward. Just keep in mind that the area can get incredibly busy during the day, particularly in peak season, meaning parking will be an issue.

We’ve spent years photographing here and can offer insight on when the lighting is best, which parts of the pond offer the most scenic views, and how to avoid the heaviest foot traffic—if that’s a priority for you. And if you love the pond but want a little more seclusion, we know a few lesser-known spots that offer similar beauty with fewer distractions.

🌊 3. Sand Beach

Tucked between forested cliffs and rocky coastline, Sand Beach is one of Acadia’s most photogenic and unique coastal spots. Its soft, golden sand and crashing waves make it feel like a world apart from the rest of New England. A sunrise proposal here can feel ethereal, with soft morning light and mist rising from the surf.

That said, it’s the park’s main beach and can draw a good number of visitors. Still, if you’re drawn to the idea of proposing on the shore with the ocean at your feet, it’s absolutely doable.

Our job isn’t to tell you where not to go—it’s to help you get the experience you want. Whether that means showing up early for a quieter moment or scouting tucked-away coastal spots with a similar feel, we’re here to help you plan with confidence.

🧗 4. Otter Cliff

Otter Cliff is one of Acadia’s most dramatic coastal viewpoints—a sheer drop to the crashing Atlantic, framed by rugged granite and wind-swept pines. Accessible via the scenic Ocean Path trail, it offers sweeping vistas without requiring a strenuous hike.

This area is especially beautiful at sunrise or in the golden light of early evening. While the trail itself is popular, there are tucked-away spots just off the main path where the crowds thin and the sounds of the ocean take over. The nearby Boulder Beach and cobblestone coves add to the variety of scenery for those wanting a proposal spot that feels wild and elemental.

Whether you’re imagining a windswept, cinematic proposal or a quiet moment perched on the rocks with the sea stretching out before you, Otter Cliff offers a powerful setting. We’ll help you plan the timing, location and parking strategy so you feel confident the moment will match your vision.

🐝 5. Beehive Trail (or The Bowl Overlook)

If you and your partner love adventure, the Beehive Trail might just be your perfect proposal setting. This short but steep climb includes iron rungs, exposed cliffs, and a thrilling ascent that leads to panoramic views of Sand Beach, Great Head, and the surrounding coastline. The reward at the top is more than just the view—it’s a sense of accomplishment and awe that makes it a memorable place to begin a new chapter.

Of course, the hike isn’t for everyone. If heights or exposure aren’t your thing, there’s a beautiful overlook near The Bowl (a serene mountain lake nestled just below) that’s far more accessible but still delivers that “on-top-of-the-world” feeling.

Because the Beehive is popular, especially in the summer, we’ll help you think through the best time of day to avoid congestion and make the moment feel as personal and grounded as it should be. Whether you pop the question on the summit or during a quiet pause along the trail, this is a location for couples who love the journey as much as the destination.
