Washington DC, home of US politics, cherry blossoms and Kate & Keith’s annual April whirlwind tour! Exactly one year ago we roadtripped it down for Josh and Thea’s Jefferson Memorial wedding. This year became our past and current client extravaganza!

We started with a stop in New Jersey to drop Kula off with her grandparents, get some good coffee and a nap before hitting the road for Maryland.

You could accurately say that our road trips closely resemble food tastings! And we never miss an opportunity for a homemade veggie burger, or farm fresh fixings. Great Sage is worth the side trip! Holy yum!!! Last year it was a vegan spinach and artichoke dip, this year a gluten-free panzanella salad, fresh ginger lemonade with muddled mint, and a falafel burger.

Then on to DC where we were surprised by the extra traffic caused by the Earth Day Festival (oops!) but successfully made it to Adams Morgan for a visit with these two at Tryst Coffeehouse. Remember them? Think awesome camp wedding on Lake Sebago in Maine complete with costume party. Sarah and Colby brought us up to speed on their pregnancy (woohoo!), and who from their guests was where (congrats to the cow on his recent marriage, and Buck Hunter & his doe are super happy with exciting careers, plus a destination wedding.) Ok, so we admit to knowing their friends by their costumes rather than names.

Back in the car to zip through the traffic to the Jefferson Memorial for one of this year’s bride & groom and a blossom filled engagement shoot.
We aimed to arrive extra early for some scouting and after a few laps around the memorial got down to some real business.

And then we joined the crowd watching a happy wedding party posing for their formal pictures. Can you tell who the photographer is?

We’re pretty sure not a single bridesmaid, groomsman or newlywed had ever met any of the happy onlookers! We’re also pretty sure we were the only ones not taking a photo of the bride and groom!
Instead we got down to having some fun with Lara and Bobby who will be married in Maine this August!

We can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we have doing engagement shoots! It’s such an awesome way to get to know our couples, share some laughs, learn some quirks (most are ours!), and take in the beauty of gorgeous locations. This one ended in a field of pink blossoms and a wish the day wouldn’t end!

But light was fading and dinner was calling in Maryland where we joined Josh and Thea for a fantastic vegan Chinese meal in their new home! Another long deep nap and we were up to celebrate their 1 year anniversary at Founding Farmers in Potomac for a fantastic brunch!

Happy anniversary! Beware, we might just make this a tradition! It’s normal for your wedding photographer to celebrate every year with you, right? 🙂
Back on the road (thank goodness for having a Prius!!) and on to Baltimore where Sam and Eben joined us for coffees in Belvedere Market and chatted eagerly about their Bar Harbor, Maine wedding in July!

Their total happiness and excitement overshadowed our coffee ordering disaster and failed attempt at getting a smoothie and left us super upbeat as we climbed back in the car for the journey to dinner with friends in NJ.
We were thrilled to catch up with Nicole (our Tuscany bride from last summer) who is ecstatically pregnant with Livia (pictured), but sorry to have missed her husband Michele.

One last stop to visit good friend, and newly engaged, Laate of Lollygig, an awesome product design company. We missed fiance Adya, but enjoyed a coffee and personal tour of the studio!

Wondering about our outfit choices? There may have been some forgotten bags in NH as we double & triple checked our camera gear. Priorities!

Back to NH for an event filled week and no rest for the weary! But well worth the fatigue as we got to see so many happy couples and friends! Thanks for the amazing food and company!
