Before we get to their Jefferson Memorial Wedding, you need the back story. Thea met Josh back when they both worked at a construction job. If you knew them today you’d laugh. I met Thea at run club in Hawaii. Thea is single handedly responsible for my island social life.
She is one of those people who brightens a room with her presence. The type that can’t walk anywhere without being stopped by friends and acquaintances saying hi. She is the glue that holds people together, the family keystone, the one who you miss when she’s not around.
Josh is the one who keeps her grounded, her rock and emotional support when life gets overwhelming and she is drained from being the shoulder to lean on for all those who love her.
Both went to school for physchology so it’s ironic they met in the construction industry. Josh stayed the course, while Thea became a massage therapist, and an amazing one at that! Her love and warmth flow through her fingertips in the most healing way (yup, I had the pleasure of being on her table for two blissful hours!!)
Getting ready for the Washington, DC. Wedding occurred at Thea’s former employer The Mandarin Oriental where, no surprise, everyone knew (and loved) her! Thea was originally from DC but Josh’s job had a project in Hawaii, moving them there for just over a year.
Thea and Josh are adventurers, taking their dog T-Bone on hikes through the Hawaiian mountain ridges, climbing forbidden ladder trails, kayaking, biking, and most importantly eating out! Josh being gluten-free introduced me to hidden poke (a Hawaiian raw fish dish) spots in town, and met with me at their favorite Cactus Bistro for “dinner with a show”, sitting near the bar with court side seats into the kitchen.
While they are loved by many and could easily have had a massive wedding, they kept the guest list limited to the nearest most long term people in their inner circle. Any one of the guests could likely score 100% on a How Well Do You Know Thea & Josh quiz.
This made me even more honored to be a part of the day, and I kept a constant texting feed open with the Hawaiian gang sending images throughout as though they were in attendance.
The crowds on a Saturday during cherry blossom season in the Basin are nothing short of remarkable. But it was as though time stood still. A girls’ school group broke out in song for the couple, shouts of congratulations and remarks of joy pervaded our time at the Memorial.
It was as though we had the city to ourselves and the day couldn’t have been more gorgeous. The party had moved to the Monocle, one of Josh and Thea’s favorite restaurants whose doors remained closed for all but them. Imagine having a wedding reception at a venue where every single employee loves you!
We were immediately brought into the family, “You need a glass of wine!” No, no, I need to be camera-ready for at least the next hour! “Great! You have ANOTHER glass of wine in an hour!”
Congratulations to a wonderful couple full of life, love and passion whom we are so blessed to call friends. Thea and Josh also dubbed us “Wedding Photography Ninjas” in one of our favorite client testimonials!
