Mount Desert island is a perfect place for family vacations, gatherings and celebrations. And we love being a part of them! Melinda contacted us to photograph their MDI garden party with a special twist. It was her son’s 30th birthday! But a traditional celebration wasn’t on brand for them, so they got creative. Sawyer’s came to do a wine tasting on their deck overlooking Southwest Harbor. And the family brought extra style with costumes and self decorated hats. Melinda and her husband welcomed their three sons with their significant others. Along with some long time family friends. Having the whole family together becomes an increasingly challenging occasion the older we all get. And worthy of family photography! While we don’t typically offer family photography, our background in weddings and events make it a breeze to photograph parties. Especially when the parties highlight personalities in creative ways. This allowed us to capture both posed family photos and candid interactions. The best of both worlds, especially for anyone nervous around a camera. Or the type who have camera smiles and real smiles. As this is an annual family gathering in Acadia, we’re sure there will be more fun photo ops. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy other Acadia event photography opportunities. Except for weddings. We’re retired in that department! Our own history with the island began as family getaways back in the 40’s. Over three generations, we have rented lots of camps, cottages, and farmhouses. And created an annual family gathering space with permanence in 2011. Which has now become a primary residence. But, the tradition continues. Each summer, both immediate and extended family flock to MDI. We relive memories, and create new ones.
Photos of family gatherings are something we hold dear. You never know what next year might bring, so getting to relive time together never stops being precious.
