This is how you pull off a September Acadia Surprise Engagement Session, a la Kate & Keith! Because when you’re “from away”, it’s nice to have a little help.
Jack reached out to us looking for an Acadia engagement photo photographer. Never having visited Mount Desert Island, he was feeling overwhelmed by options. Making him our dream proposer! We love swooping in and bringing a vision to life, complete with area recommendations.
Jack and Alanna began dating after meeting on an annual lake trip with high school friends. Alanna was living in NYC, and Jack in PA. So, for the first few years they were long distance, Amtrak bridging the gap. Music being a shared passion, their version of love notes were in custom Spotify playlists.
The pandemic shortened their commute, and they moved in together. Along with Fred, a 7 year old Greyhound rescue. While Acadia isn’t known for its live music scene, the park does have the vision Jack was aiming for. He knew Alanna, a water lover, and collegiate swimmer would be drawn to the rocky cliffs and oceanscape.
So, we designed the secret proposal to go down in a place they could happen upon while walking with Fred. Then hop to a second location for more intimacy and late afternoon light. A perfect mini MDI engagement session.
Jack described Alanna as a nature and animal lover, with shared dreams of visiting all National Parks. He chose Acadia not only because of the scenic views, but because of Alanna’s love for the beach. Plus, it was drivable from Pennsylvania, meaning Fred was on board.
Describing Alanna, Jack said, “she is smarter, more hardworking and certainly the better half. Simply put, she completes me and our little family; the perfect puzzle piece.” We had no doubt their Acadia secret proposal was going to be a special one. And while all of our communication prior was with Jack, we felt as though we knew Alanna as soon as we met. Together, their warmth and joy amplify, and it’s hard not to feel happy in their presence.
As one of our last Acadia proposal sessions before heading to Kailua, Hawaii (for winter Hawaii proposal photography!), we’re pretty thrilled to close our season celebrating their love. Plus, Fred (our new favorite Greyhound.)
Let us help you plan your own secret September Acadia Surprise Engagement Session:
It really is our favorite place on the planet and certainly one of the top National Parks in the country! Our process for Acadia proposals starts with getting to know the proposer and understanding what their vision of the event is. We’ll then work with you to find the best location and time of day to propose in Acadia and work with you in any way we can to help with the remainder of the planning and keeping it a secret.
If proposing in Acadia along the Park Loop at sunset is what speaks to you, then we’re all for helping you plan it. And we can help you find the perfect spot with fewer people and stress-free parking. Kate has been visiting Acadia every year since she was born and introduced Keith when they shot their first wedding together there. We now spend the majority of the season exploring the park while we stay at our family’s home in Somesville. It is with this passion and knowledge of the park that we can find the perfect place for your surprise proposal in Acadia National Park and be there with you to photograph the first chapter in your wedding story.
We intentionally don’t give out too many of our secrets here for the benefit of our couples. If you’re interested in working with us to photograph your surprise engagement in Acadia we’d love to chat with you! Let’s start making plans! Contact us now!
