Have you been thinking of your own Barn on the Pemi wedding? Jill and Matt’s New Hampshire barn wedding is the perfect inspiration, complete with snow, an adventurous family tradition, and plenty of Ben & Jerry’s to keep everyone on the dance floor into the wee hours!
Jill is a true adventurer at heart with a serious weakness for ice cream. Matt’s a lifelong skier with a love for travel.
When they met at a wedding for one of Jill’s friends from her time living in Singapore, if you’d listened carefully, you might have heard the click of fate snapping into place. Whatever fueled the connection, it was enough for a 2am text from Matt to his best friend about “the girl in the green dress” he’d just met and the beginning of a partnership rooted deep in laughter and respect, with a little streak of competitiveness and a whole lot of Jill’s favorite frozen treat.
When we talk about fate here, we’re not kidding. When Matt and Jill met, they lived mere streets away from each other. As they got to know one another’s families, they came to realize that they shared a community of mutual family friends and that they’d likely crossed paths before. But it wasn’t until that wedding and that green dress that it all came together.
It was not just some notion of fate that brought us all to that winter New Hampshire Barn on the Pemi wedding, however. It goes much deeper than that. It’s the way Jill is game for exploring anything and is always open to new experiences. It’s the way Matt shares her need for the outdoors, whether on skis or a road bike, or wandering around a faraway place. It’s their shared sense of adventure, of teamwork and fun, their easy laughter, especially when they’re together.
It was on this foundation that they began building their life, that eventually led to a proposal and a yes and planning a wedding that would include all of the people they loved most, from all over the world.
Though there was some discussion about doing their ceremony on the warehouse floor at Ben & Jerry’s (did we mention that Jill really likes ice cream?), when it came time to choose a location for their wedding, they knew they wanted a combination of elegant and rustic, and something that spoke to their love of the outdoors and late fall. A Barn on the Pemi wedding was a natural fit and is one of our favorite venues in New Hampshire!
The staff at The Common Man and Barn on the Pemi are a dream. They share our commitment to ensuring that the couple enjoys the best, stress-free wedding possible. They were also totally cool with the one thing Jill and Matt had as an odd, but must-have demand for their wedding day: A place to build a mud pit for a thirty year old family tradition. Speaking of that…
We love it when we get to tell more of the wedding weekend story, so we were excited when Matt told us about his family tradition of a mud run carrying “The Wedding Log.” This tradition, which in this case included snow in addition to the required mud, always happens the morning of the wedding. It’s rowdy and messy and hilarious, and it culminated in a chilly hose-down for Matt before he could begin the more usual aspects of getting ready. Luckily he’d planned ahead and left Jill her wedding pint of The Tonight Dough to make sure she got her fix before the festivities got underway (that’s love!).
That was just the beginning of this truly memorable day.
There was a snow covered landscape as the backdrop to promises made over laughter and tears of joy. There were toasts raised to the “girl in the green dress” and a love story still being written. There was dancing in a barn filled with family and friends and an epic first dance dip and flash mob that you would have had to see to believe.
We are wedding photographers who seek the in-between moments, the details alongside the big picture. We make sure we’re there for the moment a surprise pint of ice cream is discovered with a love note and we make sure we’re there when the best man busts out his signature move as the band keeps the dance floor hopping. These moments are what fuel us, what connect us to the incredible couples who trust us to capture the story of their wedding, and what make every wedding a unique adventure for us.
Jill and Matt- thank you! You have such an incredible community of loved ones and we loved being a part of your Barn on the Pemi wedding so, so much!
